12:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Make Your Own Consent Condoms

Location

SCE 302

Address

750 S. Halsted , Chicago, IL 60607

Background
On March 7, 2013, a stronger reauthorized version of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) was signed into law. Its enactment offered additional rights to the victims of sexual violence by adding amendments that strengthened the Clery Act. Serving as an umbrella, these expanded rights cover campus victims of: sexual violence, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. A “Dear Colleague Letter” was released by the Department of Education in July 2014 to address colleges’ response to the VAWA Amendment to the Clery Act asking colleges to put forth a “good faith effort to comply.” This places institutions of higher education at the helm of operationalizing these robust amendments on their campuses through the expansion of current policies, practices, and programs.

The Wellness Center invites you to be a part of Safer Sex Fest, an educational program that helps UIC to comply with the Department of Education’s “Dear Colleague Letter” and raise student
awareness about the prevention of sexual violence and general safe sex practices.

The Fest:
Safer Sex Fest will use a “Halloween” theme of games and activities to create an engaging and safe environment for students to gain answers to questions like: bystander intervention, what is consent? sex positivity, what is a healthy relationship? what’s my STI risk? etc. The fest will include: snacks, music, popcorn machine, door giveaways, and smoothies.
